Pretty big point being overlooked by media. Many people bought hybrids

with this perk high on the list of reasons they did so.

Now, they're looking for alternatives. This, combined with Beerman's point about extending what used to be the normal "rush" hours and impacting even more drivers, is causing drivers to find different routes. I know 50 was bad yesterday afternoon. Haven't heard about the impacts this morning.

Obviously, this can't be looked at in a vacuum. Yes, traffic may flow at 60mph on I66, but what's it like on the other routes into the city? It's a zero sum game imo.

Leaders can state that this will push people to carpool or mass transit but that's frankly not realistic. It may drive a small percentage to do that but the majority of people currently commuting alone in their cars are not giving up those cars and their not giving up the flexibility that comes with driving alone to/from work.

Some of us gave up that flexibility for financial reasons years ago, and I think that's a set of people that is close to maxing out and has little potential for growth.
